Adirondacks in June

Great time to visit

June is one of the best months to visit Adirondacks.

All Months

Summer brings perfect hiking and paddling weather, but also peak crowds and black flies in June. July and August see highs around 75°F with cool nights perfect for campfires. September delivers spectacular fall colors without the bugs—maples turn first in higher elevations, then the show moves downhill through October. This is peak foliage season, so book accommodations early. October offers crisp hiking weather and fewer crowds, though some seasonal businesses close after Columbus Day. Winter transforms the region into a snow sports playground—Lake Placid's Olympic venues stay active, and cross-country skiing is excellent. But many restaurants and attractions shut down, and you'll need serious cold-weather gear. Spring arrives late, with ice-out on lakes happening in April or May. Black fly season peaks in late May and June, making hiking miserable without bug spray and head nets.
