Basque Country in October
Great time to visit
October is one of the best months to visit Basque Country.
All Months
May through October offers the most reliable weather, though rain remains possible year-round. July and August bring crowds and higher prices, but also the warmest ocean temperatures and longest days. Beach weather peaks in late July when water temperatures reach 70°F.
September might be the sweet spot. Crowds thin out, restaurant reservations become easier, and the weather stays warm enough for beach days. October brings spectacular autumn colors to the inland regions and harvest season in Rioja Alavesa.
Spring arrives late but beautifully. May sees fewer tourists and mild temperatures perfect for hiking the coastal paths. Restaurant terraces reopen, and pintxos bars extend their hours.
Winter has its charms if you don't mind rain. Hotel prices drop significantly, and you'll have museums and restaurants largely to yourself. The region's incredible food scene operates year-round - some argue that winter's hearty stews and roasts represent Basque cooking at its most authentic. Just pack layers and a good rain jacket.
