May through October offers the best weather, but each month brings different advantages. May and June give you mild temperatures, blooming oleander, and fewer crowds - perfect for hiking the city walls or exploring by car. July and August bring peak summer heat and tourist masses, but also the liveliest atmosphere and warmest swimming temperatures around 24°C. September hits the sweet spot with warm water, cooler air, and thinning crowds. October can be magical with autumn colors on the mountains, though some restaurants start closing for winter. Winter brings occasional snow to the peaks and quiet streets, but many tourist services shut down. The bura wind can be fierce in winter, creating dramatic but sometimes dangerous conditions on the water.
