Blue Ridge Mountains in February

Not the best time

February isn't ideal for Blue Ridge Mountains. Consider a different month.

All Months

Fall foliage season from late September through early November draws the biggest crowds – and highest prices. Peak color hits different elevations at different times: higher peaks turn first, usually mid-to-late September, while valleys hold green into October. Gatlinburg hotels triple their rates during peak leaf season, and Blue Ridge Parkway traffic crawls on October weekends. Spring offers wildflower blooms from April through May without the crowds, though weather stays unpredictable with possible snow above 4,000 feet into April. Summer brings comfortable temperatures in the mountains – expect highs in the low 80s while Atlanta swelters at 95 – but also afternoon thunderstorms and humidity. Winter transforms the landscape into something almost alpine, with snow common above 3,000 feet. Many Blue Ridge Parkway sections close from December through March, but Asheville stays lively year-round. Late November through early December offers a sweet spot: fall colors linger at lower elevations, crowds disappear, and mountain towns prepare for the holidays.
