Islamic Cairo in April
Good time to visit
April is a reasonable time to visit Islamic Cairo.
All Months
October through March gives you the sweet spot – warm days, cool nights, and manageable crowds. December and January are perfect: you can walk for hours without melting, and the light hitting those stone facades around 4 PM is absolutely magical.
But here's what nobody tells you: visit during Ramadan if you can handle it. The area transforms completely. Streets empty during the day, then explode with life after sunset. The iftar calls echo between the minarets, and every mosque courtyard fills with families sharing meals. It's intense and beautiful and totally different from the regular tourist experience.
Avoid July and August unless you enjoy feeling like you're inside an oven. Temperatures hit 40°C (104°F) and the stone streets trap heat like a furnace. Even locals avoid walking during midday.
Timing within the day matters too. Get here by 8 AM to have the major sites mostly to yourself. The golden hour before sunset (around 5 PM in winter) turns every minaret into a photo opportunity.
