Malta in April
Great time to visit
April is one of the best months to visit Malta.
All Months
Malta shines brightest in shoulder seasons. April through June brings warm days (20-25°C), fewer crowds, and wildflowers carpeting the countryside. The sea warms up by May, perfect for swimming without the August sardine-can beaches. September through November offers similar benefits - warm water, comfortable temperatures, and restaurant terraces that aren't blazing hot.
Summer (July-August) means guaranteed sunshine and 30°C+ temperatures, but also means packed beaches, inflated prices, and that oppressive Mediterranean heat that makes walking around Valletta feel like touring inside an oven. The Scirocco wind can bring African dust storms that turn the sky orange.
Winter (December-March) surprises many visitors. Temperatures hover around 15°C, perfect for exploring historical sites without melting. Rain comes in short, sharp bursts rather than all-day drizzle. Hotels slash prices by 50% and you'll have ancient temples practically to yourself. The downside? Swimming requires serious dedication and many beach bars close entirely.
Easter week brings religious processions through every village - spectacular to witness but book accommodation well ahead. The Malta Jazz Festival in July and Notte Bianca in October are worth timing your visit around.
