Middle East in August
Not the best time
August isn't ideal for Middle East. Consider a different month.
All Months
Timing is everything in the Middle East. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 45°C (113°F) in the Gulf states, making outdoor activities miserable. Dubai in July feels like walking through a hair dryer – even the pools are too warm for relief.
The sweet spot runs from October through April. December and January offer perfect weather – sunny days around 25°C (77°F) and cool evenings perfect for rooftop dinners. This is peak season, so expect higher prices and crowds at major attractions.
Shoulder seasons (October-November and March-April) offer the best balance of good weather and reasonable prices. Istanbul's spring is particularly lovely, with blooming tulips in the palace gardens and comfortable temperatures for walking the city's hills.
Ramadan adds another layer of complexity. The dates shift each year, but during this holy month, many restaurants close during daylight hours and the pace of life slows considerably. It's not necessarily a bad time to visit – evenings become more festive and you'll witness important cultural traditions – but plan accordingly.
Winter in the Levant (Jordan, Lebanon, Syria) can be surprisingly cold and wet. Jerusalem gets snow most years, and Petra's desert nights drop below freezing. Pack layers.
